Greasy Combination Skin

Greasy skin produces more sebum than is needed to give the normal amount of lubrication and protection. Consequently, its surface appears shiny, thick, coarse, dull and often grimy.

A build up of sebum in the ducts and hair follicles stretches the pores, which become enlarged. Depending on how the skin is cared for, the pores may be open or blocked. Open pores provide a route for bacteria, which causes spots and infections. Blocked pores often result in comedones (blackheads). The thicker coating of sebum on the skin delays the rate at which desquamation takes place. Instead of being shed evenly, the surface cells remain ‘stuck down’ attracting more dust and grime. Meanwhile new cells continue to be produced in the epidermis so that the overall thickness of the skin increases. This, together with the extra fatty content of the epidermis, gives the skin a dull, sallow (yellowish) appearance.

A good skin-care regime is essential if you have greasy skin. Firstly, it is extremely important that make-up is removed before going to bed as sleeping without cleansing leads to blocked pores, bacteria build up and eventually breakouts.  Exfoliation and peels will help improve the condition of the skin.

Products which help to absorb oil on the skin’s surface and provide a smooth, matt finish are recommended for a Greasy skin type. Salicylic Acid helps to prevent breakouts.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is the most common skin type amongst women. It can come in any mix such as normal/combination, dry/combination, normal/dry.  The ‘secondary’ skin condition will arise in certain areas such as an oily ‘T’ zone or dry cheeks. If you have combination skin it is important to book into a clinic for a Beau Visage Skin Health Consultation in order to learn how to manage your skin and for the practitioner to be able to recommend appropriate treatments and products that will work for you.

Skin problems can be a sign of an unhealthy gut. A balanced, nutritious diet is vital for healthy skin. Vitamins A, C, E, protein and Essential Fatty Acids are particularly important in the fight against premature skin ageing. Drinking around 2 litres of water a day is excellent at moisturising the skin as it hydrates the skin, leaving it healthy and glowing.

A Beau Visage Consultation, is the ultimate skin health consultation and means that you can benefit from an accurate analysis of the true health of you skin. With the use of Beau Visage you will be able to understand why your skin behaves in the way it does. Beau Visage will allow the practitioner to work with you to track changes over time, prove the benefits of a new regime and address problem areas when they occur.
